Fishing in ponds - 2006-12-17

Some ponds in Lithuania's project site in Petroskos have been cleaned from fish. Assisted by local people the Lithuanian Fund for Nature used a special net to catch the crussian carp (Carassius sp.) and tench (Tinca tinca). Despite the fact that catch occured in december, some adult and young fish was caught in small ponds.

Introduced fish becomes one of the main threats to Triturus cristatus as the fish consums the spawn of amphibians. The action ponds will be observed to evaluate the results, and the fishing repeated if needed.
