Grazing cattle in Lithuania - 2006-11-28

6 Galoway cattle were brought to Lithuania on rainy November days. 3 heifer and 1 bull were left by Stase and Takyras Chadijevai in Krikstonys village, and the other pair of cattles were transported to Rima Baksiene in Klepociai village. The farmers will take care of Natura2000 sites in Kuciuliske and Petroskai sites keeping grazers in these areas. Originally Scottish cattle consume grass which is not grazed by traditional Lithuanian cattle; hence Galoways will help to keep open ponds and semi-natural lowlands not overgrown with bushes.

Galoway cattle as an extensive cattle still are not popular in Lithuania, only several farms are known in all country.
