Turtle day celebration - 2006-10-14

Turtle day took place in Veisiejai town on 13th October. Sky blued demonstration of pupils of Veisiejai primary and secondary schools went through the town stopping in three places which imitated the sites for turtle protection in Lazdijai county. Citizens were astonished looking at that colourfull crowd of pupils, teachers, reprezentatives from regional parks, county administration. it seems, that turtle protection became known for whole town and its' surroundings.

Two weeks pupils prepared for this celebration painting, doing craft works which were exhibited in the school. the pupils got presentsfor the most interesting works. The primary school presented songs about turtle club, also the school club of aerobic presented their dancing show. Martina Meeske presented slide show about turtles biology.

It was the first turtle day, but not last as local community is very engaged and motivated to protect their environment.
