Environmental Policy and Management Program (coordinator Pranas Mierauskas) covers various environmental policy and legal aspects, EU enlargement and Lithuanian integration into the EU process, the implementation of EU directives and International Conventions in Lithuania, international cooperation, environmental impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment and environmental audit. The implementation of the Habitats and Birds Directives as well as the Water Framework Directive in Lithuania is prioritised. Much attention is being focused on drafting legal acts and their adoption.
Nature Protection and Site Management Program (coordinator Darius Stoncius) covers conservation of biodiversity and its status assessment, protection of rare and endangered species, the drawing up and implementation of site management and species action plans, selection and management of protected areas. The priority projects include identification and management of potential Natura 2000 sites and restoration of damaged ecosystems.
Program of The Baltic Coast and the Curonian Lagoon (coordinator Pranas Mierauskas) deals with the protection of the Baltic coast and the Curonian Lagoon, as well as the Nemunas Delta; cooperation between environmental experts of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad Region (Russia); cooperation of local authorities and involvement of local people for better environmental problem solving. The priority projects include nature protection of the Nemunas Delta, Rusne island in particular, and rural development.
